Ford to halt production at German plant

Ford is halting production at German plant due to weak demand in southern Europe.

Ford Motor Co. is halting production at its plant in Cologne, Germany, for several days between now and October to offset weak demand in southern Europe, Automotive News reports.

Ford's German unit, Ford-Werke, has applied for approval to shorten workers' hours under a subsidised government program, a Ford spokesman said.

According to Automotive News, the spokesman said that the total number of days the plant will shut down production is not yet clear. However, there will be eight days of production stoppage through mid-July.
